The government’s primary duty is to serve the people. It must guarantee that every person has the right to do whatever he chose to. There should be justice in forming the government, electing candidates and making policies. Simply put, democracy is still one of the greatest invention since the wheel. Democracy has many subdivisions; countries must choose the optimal system for their situations. The main two systems of democracy are presidentialism and the parliamentary system.
If I were to choose between parliamentary and presidential, I would rather be satisfied with our current government system, presidentialism, which has been here since democracy dawned on us. I have considered the most basic difference in the two forms of government, and that is in terms of upholding and allowing the exercise of the precious right of suffrage, which is the very essence of democracy. In a presidential government, the president and members of Congress are chosen in separate elections while in a parliamentary process, one size fits all, so to speak. The presidential system refers to the chief executive of a government, which has no prime minister. Today, we find the presidential form of government hobbled by certain institutional weaknesses. But I supposed that the problems we face today are not merely due to the presidential form of government. It has also something to do with the kind of people that we elect to be our leaders. I do not agree that we need to change the form of government from presidential to parliamentary. It is not the form of government that is flawed but our electoral system because the open party system somehow diluted the strength of the party system in our country.
